Volleyball Earns AVCA Top 25 Ranking

TAMPA, Fla. – After opening the 2018 season with a perfect 4-0 record, the University of Tampa volleyball team snags the No. 25 spot in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II coaches poll as announced by the association office, Monday.
The Spartans played in the Raven First Serve Invitational to begin their 2018 campaign, taking the first game of the year 3-2 over the University of New Haven Chargers. Tampa then went on to sweep both Franklin Pierce and LIU Post, and closed out the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Grand Valley State Lakers.
Minnesota Duluth snags the No. 1 spot, followed by reigning national champions, Concordia-St. Paul, at No. 2. To round out the top five, Lewis takes No. 3, Ferris State climbs to the No. 4 position, and Nebraska-Kearney holds No. 5.
Tampa will continue its season at home this weekend, as the team co-hosts the 2018 Courtyard Marriott/Terrace Hotel Classic starting Friday, August 31st. The team’s first match will be against West Texas A&M, with the Catawba Indians on deck.
