Three Spartans Receive All-South Region Honors for Women’s Lacrosse
TAMPA, Fla. – The IWLCA has honored 128 student-athletes in Division II with a selection to one of the All-Region teams for 2018. These student-athletes are now eligible to be named to a national IWLCA All-American team. The IWLCA will celebrate the 2018 All-Americans during Divisional All-American Announcement Shows, which will be launched online in mid-June.
For the first time in program history, Tampa has three student-athletes who were recognized by the IWLCA as selections for this honor. Freshman Bridget Sutter was named to the IWLCA All-South Region first team, while junior Rachel Crawford and sophomore Alexa Scudillo were named to the second team.
This season Sutter played in all 18 games for the Spartans. The Evergreen, Colo. native recorded 153 saves earning a goals against average of 10.03. She won Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week twice, was a member of the SSC All-Championship team, and earned All-SSC first team honors in addition to being named the SSC Freshman of the Year.
Crawford led UT in assists this year with 37 in addition to having 25 goals. She became one of just four Spartans to earn 100 career points with still a season left of eligibility. Additionally, she stated 21 ground balls, had 12 caused turnovers, and two draw control wins. The Arnold, Md. native was selected as the SSC Offensive Player of the Week once this season and was also named to the All-SSC first team.
Finally, Scudillo headed the Spartans defensive efforts. Starting in all 18 games, the Millstone, N.J. native led the team in caused turnovers with 33, was third in draw controls with 31, and was fourth in ground balls also with 31. She earned the SSC Defensive Player of the Week once this season and was also named to the All-SSC first team.
