Tampa Volleyball Climbs Poll to No. 20

TAMPA, Fla. – After ending the weekend 3-1 at the Courtyard by Marriott Volleyball Classic, hosted by the University of Tampa, the Spartans climbed the ranks five spots to No. 20. in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association Division II coaches poll as announced by the association office, Monday.
Increasing their overall record to 7-1, the Spartans defeated West Texas A&M 3-1, Catawba College 3-0, and previously ranked No. 4 Ferris State 3-2. Tampa’s only loss this season came on Saturday in five sets from now No. 22 Drury University.
This week, Nebraska-Kearney snags the No. 1 spot, followed by reigning national champions, Concordia-St. Paul, at No. 2. To round out the top five, Northern State takes No. 3, Palm Beach Atlantic climbs to the No. 4 position, and Lewis drops to No. 5.
The Sunshine State Conference is well represented in the poll with PBA at No. 4, Tampa at No. 20, and Florida Southern at No. 21.
Tampa will open up conference play this week against the Florida Tech Panthers on Friday, September 7th. This game is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Spartans will travel to Daytona Beach, Florida to take on the Embry-Riddle Eagles for a 4:00 p.m. showdown.
