TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Florida Tech Panthers in their first conference match of the 2018 season by set scores of 24-26, 25-14, 25-15, and 25-21. The Spartans move to 1-0 in SSC play, while the Panthers fall to 0-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The outside duo of Katie McKiel and Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans on offense with 14 and 12 kills respectively. Following their efforts was senior middle blocker Danielle Christian who ended the match with a season-high of 10 kills hitting .556. Sammy Mueller earned her fifth double-double of the season logging 40 assists and 15 digs. Additionally, the Gainesville, Florida native earned a team high of 3 service aces. Nicole Dominguez suited up as libero for the Spartans, contributing to the 3-1 win with 11 digs, five assists, and one kill. Although she did not log any stats, the Spartans welcomed back to the court senior Gen Beaumier.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel earned her sixth double-double of the season with 14 kills and 15 digs.

• Sammy Mueller earned her fifth double-double of the season with 40 assists and 11 digs.

• Middle duo of Danielle Christian and Kamari Potter recorded season highs in hitting. Christian recorded 10 kills hitting .556, while Potter had 5 kills hitting .500.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
Tampa leads the all-time series against the Panthers 84-0.
