Last Time Out: The Spartans took down Nova Southeastern in style last Saturday 3-0. Emily Cady broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a cracking strike into the top right corner to make it 1-0. Freshman Moeko Morse doubled the Tampa lead with a penalty kick in the 18th minute, and Julia Detwiler scored her first career goal in the 67th minute to put the game out of reach for the Sharks. Goalkeeper Megan Bromwell was tested just once and rose to the challenge, making a single save on the night.
About the Spartans: With a win against Nova Southeastern last Saturday, the Spartans won SSC openers in back to back seasons for the first time since the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Tampa defeated Eckerd last season in its opening conference game. The Virginia native Morse has scored four goals and racked up eight points in six appearances. Her four goals are good for a tie for second in the SSC. Cady is close behind, scoring three goals thus far, and freshman Elena Barr has scored two goals. Bromwell has 23 saves on six appearances.
About the Tritons: The Tritons opened SSC play undefeated for the first time since 2015, but lost their first conference matchup against No. 10 Barry 3-0. Stephanie Linton leads all Tritons with three goals and is tied with Celine Brandt with a team-high six points. Brandt has netted two goals while also providing the assist on two goals. Ten Eckerd players have found the back of the net this season, and goalkeeper Casey Winn has made 17 saves and allowed just four goals in five appearances.
All-time Series: Tampa holds a commanding lead in the series over the Tritons with 22 wins, three losses, and a lone tie. The Spartans edged past Eckerd twice last season with two 1-0 victories. Alexis Sheridan and Lacy Nasello scored the game-winning goal in the first and second match respectively.
