Spartans Look to Continue Home Success
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s soccer team look to continue their success at home as they welcome Embry-Riddle to Pepin Stadium on Wednesday evening. The Spartans are unbeaten in the last five games at home.
The Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans (5-3-4, 3-1-2 SSC) vs. Embry-Riddle Eagles (6-4-0, 4-2-0 SSC)

Last Time Out: Tampa faced off against No. 8 Barry University and battled throughout the match, however ultimately dropped the contest 1-0 in the 74th minute. The Buccaneers registered their goal after the inital shot went off the post and found the foot of Molly Sharpe. Sharpe tapped in the game-winning goal to spoil the Spartans upset bid. Megan Bromwell recorded nine saves on Barry’s 20 total shots, which are the most saves since September 2nd against No. 18 Mississippi College. The Spartans did not log a shot on goal for the first time since October 8th, 2010.
About the Spartans: Tampa looks to secure their fourth conference win for the ninth consecutive season. The Spartans have only lost once at home this season, to Queens (N.C.) on September 7, but have collected three wins at Pepin Stadium since that loss. Moeko Morse leads the team with six goals on the season, which also leads all freshman in the Sunshine State Conference. The forward from Chesapeake, Va. is tied for ninth in the nation, among freshman in goals scored. Bromwell has tallied 39 saves in 12 games played. The sophomore transfer from Hamilton, NJ has earned two clean sheets in her first season as a Spartan. Nastasia Asgedom is third on the team with seven points as she’s scored twice and assisted on three goals.
About the Eagles: Embry-Riddle owns a perfect 6-0 home record, however they are 0-4 away from Daytona Beach. In their last match, the Eagles rallied to defeat Florida Tech 3-2 in part to three second-half goals. Eva Jonsdottir logged two goals in the comeback victory on Saturday evening. Jonsdottir leads the team with four goals scored. Ragnheidur Gardarsdottir completed the rally with an 83rd minute game-winner. Embry-Riddle uses a committee at goal-keeper as Fanny Kristiansson and Dana Ruchti have spilt the ten starts in net.
All-Time Series: The programs have only met four previous times as the series started with back-to-back road matchups in 1998-1999. UT won both of those meetings and defeated Embry-Riddle at Pepin Stadium in 2016. The Eagles secured their first victory in the series last season by a 1-0 result, via a Julia Olsson goal. The Spartans are out-scoring Embry Riddle 8-4 in four games.
