Zonta Club of Sarasota Honors Angie Stringer of Girls Inc with “Champion Award”

Zontians Mark 35th Year with March 29 Celebration Held During Women’s History Month

Angie Stringer, president and CEO of Girls Inc. of Sarasota County will be honored by the Zonta Club of Sarasota for her leadership and advocacy on behalf of girls during a March 29 brunch celebrating the club’s 35th anniversary. Inspirational speaker and actress Brenda Heckert will serve as mistress of ceremonies. The brunch will also include the premiere of a short film produced by Ringling College of Art and Design film students Jada Poon and Santiago Medina, featuring interviews with Ms. Stringer and Laura Spencer, CFO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. The event is open to the public and will take place Sunday, March 29 from 11 am to 2:00 pm at the Laurel Oak Country Club, 2700 Gary Player Boulevard in Sarasota. Event tickets are $65; advance registration and payment arrangements may be made via email to ZontaSRQ@gmail.com.

March is national Women’s History Month — perfect timing for the Zonta Club of Sarasota to celebrate Ms. Stringer and its own 35-year history of remarkable local women working year in and year out to stop human trafficking, prevent domestic violence, and empower women and girls through service and advocacy. The local club is a member of Zonta International which is also celebrating a major milestone this year — its 100th anniversary. Over the years, Zonta International has provided nearly $41 million to fund efforts to empower women and expand their access to education, health care, economic opportunities and safe living conditions.

“We could think of no more deserving individual to honor in Zonta’s centennial year than Angie Stringer for her outstanding career in nonprofit service and her hard work as a champion for young girls in our community,” said Sandra Miller, president of the Zonta Club of Sarasota. At the brunch, Ms. Stringer will be presented with the Zonta Club Centennial Champion Award. Zonta Club charter members Anne Stinnett , Esq. (ret), Linda Laabs, D.D.S. and Jean West-Walker, will also be recognized for their decades of service and advocacy on behalf of women and girls.

Chartered in 1985, the Zonta Club of Sarasota meets monthly to promote Zontian ideals of service, fellowship, networking and personal development. To learn more, visit Facebook.com/zontasarasota, or contact the organization at ZontaSRQ@gmail.com.
