UT Women Continue Early-Season Dominance With Win Over FSC

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s and women’s swimming teams were back in action, meeting a pair of ranked Sunshine State Conference opponents for the second-straight week. The Spartan women emerged victorious while the men fell to the Mocs.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Men’s Final: No. 7 Florida Southern 148, No. 18 Tampa Spartans 114
Women’s Final: No. 5 Tampa Spartans 171, No. 17 Florida Southern Moccasins 84

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The meet totaled 28 events, including 14 for the men and 14 for the women.
- Tampa’s women took first in 13 races.
- The Spartan men took four first-place finishes.
TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):
- Freshman Cole Forbes gave UT its first men’s victory with a 9:48.49 in the 1,000 Free.
- The 200 Fly was won by Brian Valedon in 1:52.98. Valedon would also win the 500 Free with a time of 4:43.15.
- Aaron James was the first to finish the 50 Free, doing so in 21.46.
TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):
- UT began the meet with a first-place effort in the 400 Medley Relay. A time of 3:55.84 was registered by Hana van Loock, Elizaveta Bazarova, McKenzie Street and Megan Waddell.
- Maureen Moore took first in the 1,000 Free with a time of 10:30.66. She would later win her second race of the meet with a first in the 500 Free with a time of 5:06.32.
- The 200 Free was won by van Loock with a 1:54.35. van Loock also won the 100 Free in 52.14.
- Torey Brierley finished first in the 100 Back with a time of 59.41.
- Bazarova championed the 100 Breast with a time of 1:05.18.
- UT earned nine points with a Courtney Sherwood win in the 200 Fly, with a time of 2:07.45.
- The 50 Free went to Waddell as she was timed at 24.12.
- Erin Hixenbaugh won the 200 Back in 2:08.79.
- The 100 Fly was won by Isabelle Bularca with a time of 59.68.
- Cat Sterlacci won the 200 IM after finishing in 2:10.39.
- UT won the 400 Free Relay in 3:34.23 to finish the women’s meet. The team included Moore, van Loock, Waddell and Brierley.
