The Tampa Rundown – University of Tampa Athletics
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week women’s golf finished fourth at the Shark Invitational in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The No. 8 ranked volleyball team continued their winning streak, defeating both the Florida Tech Panthers and the Eckerd College Tritons for the second time this season. Men’s soccer ended the week 1-1, defeating the Eagles of Embry-Riddle on Wednesday 3-2, before falling to the No. 11 ranked Lynn University Fighting Knights 3-2 on Saturday. Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the South Florida Invitational. The women’s team finished third, while the men took home fourth. Also over the weekend, men’s and women’s swimming both got the “W” against the Rollins College Tars. The women defeated the Tars 196-66, while the men won 181-81. Finally, after their midweek game was canceled due to weather, UT women’s soccer fell to the Lynn Fighting Knights on Saturday by a final score of 1-0.
This Week’s Events:
Men’s Basketball:
The men’s basketball team will kick off their 2018-19 season on Saturday. They will host the Florida College Falcons at 2:00 p.m. in the Bob Martinez Athletics Center.
Men’s Cross Country:
The men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Milledgeville, Georgia where they will compete in the Bobcat Invitational at the Council Farm Course. The race will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday the 20th.
Men’s Soccer:
Men’s soccer will also be on the road on Saturday. They will travel to Melbourne, Florida where they will take on the Florida Tech Panthers at 7:00 p.m.
Men’s & Women’s Swimming:
Both the men’s and women’s swim teams will host the Nova Southeastern Sharks for a meet starting at 10:00 a.m.
Women’s Cross Country:
The women’s cross country team is headed to Pittsburgh, Pa. this weekend to run at the Rock Pre-Nationals event. The race will take place Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m., at the Bob O’Connor Golf Course at Schenley Park.
Women’s Golf:
UT is currently competing in round 1 of the Saint Leo Invitational at the Lake Jovita Golf Course in Dade City, Florida. Tomorrow the invitational will close out with round 2.
Women’s Soccer:
Women’s soccer has two home games this week. First, on Wednesday, the Spartans will host the Eagles of Embry-Riddle at 7:00 p.m. The team will then welcome the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday the 20th. This game is also slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Pepin Stadium.
Women’s Tennis:
This weekend, the tennis team will travel to Lakeland, Florida to compete in the YTF Tournament. Matches will take place Friday through Sunday.
Volleyball:
Tampa Volleyball will play out of Orlando this weekend competing at the annual South Region Crossover event between the 12 teams from the Gulf South Conference, and the 11 from the Sunshine State Conference. All games will take place at the Orlando Sports Center, with Tampa taking on Valdosta State University, Lee University, and the University of West Florida respectively.
