TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans defeated the Eckerd College Tritons in conference play in three sets by scores of 25-14, 25-18 and 25-20. The Spartans move to 4-0 in SSC play, while the Tritons fall to 0-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set 1 | Tampa took the first set 25-14. Sammy Mueller dished out 14 assists in the set, in addition to logging two digs and two kills. Offensively, Tampa rallied behind the efforts of sophomores Nylah Demps who hit 1.000 with two kills and Melissa Elias who hit .750 with three kills and five digs. Katie McKiel led the Spartans in kills with five for the set.
Set 2 | In the second game, UT’s offense was led again by Elias who had the team-high of four kills followed by sophomore Sorrel Houghton and McKiel who both tallied three kills each. UT continued to use Mueller as the primary setter recording seven additional assists. Tampa won set two 25-18.
Set 3 | After intermission, Tampa took the court with a mission to finish the game in three sets. Houghton dominated for the Spartans offense with seven kills. Additionally, junior Taylor Fosler tallied three kills of her own. The Spartans ended the night with a total of 55 digs and 44 kills. Mueller tallied 11 more assists, totaling 32 for the night. Tampa ended the third set by a final score of 25-20.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Sorrel Houghton led the Spartans in kills for the night with a total of 12, hitting .391. Melissa Elias followed with 9 kills hitting an outstanding .444.

• Nicole Dominguez led the Spartans in digs with 16.

• Sammy Mueller recorded a total of 32 assists. Additionally, she had 11 digs and two kills for the Spartans.

 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
Tampa leads the all-time series against the Tritons 92-2.
