TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 7 University of Tampa Spartans sweep the Lynn Fighting Knights by set scores of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-18.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Spartans came out of the locker room, red-hot, and ready to play. Immediately they took the lead and were able to close out the match in three sets. Offensively, sophomore Katie McKiel led the Spartans with 15 kills, followed by Sorrel Houghton and Nylah Demps each with nine kills. McKiel ended the match hitting an outstanding .351, while Houghton and Demps hit .136 and an amazing .444 respectively. Senior middle-blocker Danielle Christian also contributed heavily to the Spartans success. The senior from the U.S. Virgin Islands hit .444 on nine attempts and ended the match with a team-high of one solo block and five block assists. Sammy Mueller ran the Spartans offense. She recorded 30 assists in addition to logging nine digs. Finally, libero Nicole Dominguez led the Spartans in the dig category. She ended the straight sets with a total of 15. 

 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Katie McKiel had a team-high of 15 kills. 

• Nicole Dominguez ended the match with a team-high of 15 digs.

• Sammy Mueller now has a total of 1,085 assists in her junior campaign.

• Danielle Christian earned 5+ kills for the third time in her senior season.

• Gen Beaumier recorded a season-high of nine digs.

• Nylah Demps‘ nine kills is the second highest from her this season.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Fighting Knights 43-3. This was their second sweep over the Knights this season.

UP NEXT:
The Spartans will end conference play next weekend traveling to Saint Leo and Florida Southern on Friday and Saturday respectively. Friday’s match will take place at 7:00 p.m. while the Spartans will take on the Moccasins Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Live stats and a live video webcast will be provided through www.tampaspartans.com.
