TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans tennis team defeats Saginaw Valley State University while only losing one total set.

How it Happened:

Tampa started off strong picking-up the 1-0 advantage after doubles play (winning all three matches).

Ekaterina Grib and Savannah Williams thrashed their opponents in a 6-1 number one doubles victory.

Double three finished second as Cheyenne Brooks and Lilley Nice‘s 6-3 win confirmed Tampa’s doubles point.

Corbin Dorsey and Tatiana Harrelson had a come-from-behind 6-4 win against Saginaw Valley’s Joanne Gao and Sara Neves. Dorsey only played in doubles for this match.

Spartans standout Ekaterina Grib finished her singles match first. She defeated the Cardinal’s top ranked player, Maddie Miller, 6-0, 6-1.

Williams clinched the match for Tampa with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Joanne Gao.

Vanina Iordanova was clutch as she won 10-4 in the third-set tiebreak to sweep SVSU.

Tampa improves to an above .500 record for the first time this season.

UT has won three straight matches as well as four of the last five.
Up Next: The Spartans return home on Tuesday, March 10, to take on West Chester at 12 p.m. The Rams have a 4-0-1 record this season and play at Webber (3/7) and Eckerd (3/8) before coming to Tampa. UT defeated WCU 9-0 in the two school’s lone meeting in 2013.
