Spartans Set to Host Barry University
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s soccer team is set to host Barry University on Saturday evening. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. as UT hosts Parents Weekend at Pepin Stadium. With a victory, head coach Adrian Bush would become the all-time winningest coach in UT history.
The Match: University of Tampa Spartans (1-5-3, 1-4-0 SSC) vs. Barry University Buccaneers (7-2-1, 3-1-1 SSC)

Last Time Out: The Spartans dropped a hard-fought match against Rollins College 1-0 on Wednesday evening. Jake Richards tied a season-high logging seven saves on 19 total shots from the Tars. Rojay Smith almost came away with his first career goal, however the offsides flag countered that milestone. Mike Schessl squandered an opportunity in the 66th minute as his finessed shot was pushed wide by the Rollins goal-keeper.
About the Spartans: All of Tampa’s matches have been decided by a single goal or less. The last game decided by two or more goals came against the University of South Florida in an August exhibition. Richards continues to lead the Spartans in goal as he’s registered 43 saves, which currently ranks second in the SSC. The English goal-keeper is ranked eighth in the UT history with 144 saves in 38 games played. Marcel Salokat and Juancho Fernandez have each tallied two goals and two assists, which tie them for the team-lead in both categories. The veteran forwards also lead the way with six points apiece.
About the Buccaneers: On Wednesday night, Barry ended Nova Southeastern’s eight-game win streak in part to Marco Sordi’s career-high 13 saves in the 2-1 victory. Sordi stopped a penalty kick and picked up his sixth win of the season. Lucas Russo scored on a free kick for the Buccaneers in the sixth minute, while Flavio Colasanti logged the game-winner in the 59th. Colasanti leads the team with six goals and 13 points, via 27 shots. The Buccaneers defeated No. 14 Rollins two weeks ago, however fell to No. 2 Palm Beach Atlantic in the following match.
Series History: Tampa leads the all-time series with 22 victories, 13 losses and three draws. The Spartans have won the last four of five meetings, outscoring Barry University 8-3. After last year’s 1-0 loss to Barry, the Spartans went on an eight-match unbeaten streak and won the SSC tournament championship.
Tickets: General admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. UT students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid Spartan ID.
