Spartans Outlast Northwood in Extras

TAMPA, Fla. – No. 10 University of Tampa outlasted its opponent in an extra-inning victory against the visiting Northwood University Timberwolves.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

All-time Series: The Spartans met the Northwood Timberwolves for the first time and now lead the series 1-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Northwood had a pair of singles from both Magnu and Montas-Buwhich. The Timberwolves had two runners cross the plate. || Top 3 || NU 2-0
- The Timberwolves added another run off a Polewka single. ||Top 5|| NU 3-0
- Nick Derr singled up the middle driving in Mikey Navarrete to get the Spartans on the board. || Bot 5 || NU 3-1
- Drew Ehrhard was the first of two Spartan baserunners to score in the inning. Later in the inning, Navarrete put down a sacrifice bunt to bring John Pichman home to tie up the game. || Bot 8 || 3-3
- Luke Benoit hit a walk-off single to give the Spartans the win. Ehrhard scored the winning run after reaching base on a single. || Bot 11 || UT 4-3
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Derr had an RBI to go along with a three-hit performance on the night.
- Navarrete had a hit, RBI, and made his pitching debut for the Spartans. He entered in the top of the 12 inning with Northwood runners on second and third and escaped the jam on a flyout to right field.
- J.D. Urso started at shortstop and collected a pair of hits.
- Lefty Colton Widdows started for the Spartans and went 3.0 innings.
- Zane Morrison tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless action with a strikeout while allowing just one hit.
- Alex Passarella pitched 1.1 innings without a run, and was followed by 0.2 innings from James Angel.
- In his first action with the Spartans, Aidan Brown pitched 1.0 scoreless innings with a strikeout.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- Tampa picked up its fourth consecutive victory.
- The Spartans won their second straight game by one run.
- Navarrete threw his first career pitches for the Spartans.
- UT matched its longest win streak of the season with the victory.
UP NEXT:
Tampa will travel to Fort Lauderdale to take on conference foe Nova Southeastern in a three-game series Friday at 6 p.m.
