TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s soccer team battled against Eckerd College on Wednesday night at Pepin Stadium, and the Spartans were able to preserve the 2-1 victory. Head coach Erin Switalski remains undefeated against Eckerd as UT has won the last six matches in total.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

1st Half | The Spartans grabbed the first half lead in the 29th minute as Emily Cady scored her fourth goal of the season. Nastasia Asgedom led Cady on a through-ball into the box and from the left side Cady lasered a shot past the goal-keeper’s face, into the upper right corner of the net. UT peppered the net-minder, Casey Winn, with four shots on goal in the first half. 

2nd Half | In the 69th minute, Stephanie Linton equalized the game at 1-1 for her fourth goal of the season. Linton leads the Tritons in goals scored this season. Asgedom tacked on the sixth game-winner of her career in the 75th minute to give UT a 2-1 advantage. Asgedom is tied for 8th place in UT history in game-winning goals. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Libby Wissman registered her second assist of the season on the game-winning goal.
• Three Spartans led the team with three shots each (Asgedom, Wissman, and Ali Robinson).
• Asgedom scored her first goal of the season, additionally, the 14th of her career. 

UP NEXT: The University of Tampa will head to Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday night, kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
