Spartans Face Conquistadors in First-Ever Meeting
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s soccer team will cap off its non-conference schedule against Florida National with hopes of extending its unbeaten streak to four games.
The Match: University of Tampa Spartans (3-2-3, 2-0-1 SSC) vs. Florida National University Conquistadors (1-8-0)
Date/Time: Wednesday, September 26 at 7 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Spartans couldn’t outlast Palm Beach Atlantic at the PBA Soccer Complex, drawing 0-0. Tampa had won the previous 12 meetings between the two Sunshine State Conference foes. The Spartans peppered the PBA goal-keeper with 20 shots and also racked up 11 corners, but they were unable to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Megan Bromwell was only forced to make a single save on the night.
About the Spartans: Forwards Emily Cady and Moeko Morse are tied for a team-high four goals and a team-high eight points. Cady’s last goal came in the Spartans’ most recent home game against Eckerd College. The Florida Atlantic transfer got onto the end of a Nastasia Asgedom through ball and fired it into the far corner to put Tampa ahead. Asgedom has three points so far this season with a goal and an assist. The senior midfielder scored the game-winning goal against Eckerd.
About the Conquistadors: The Conquistadors are coming off a 3-2 loss against Nova Southeastern University. FNU nearly erased a 3-0 deficit with D’Yolanda Pineda and Isabela Martins scoring two late goals to scare the Sharks. Pineda leads the Conquistador attack with five goals and an assist, and goalkeeper Briana Gomez has made 45 saves in six appearances.
All-time Series: Wednesday’s matchup will be the first ever meeting between Tampa and Florida National. The teams were set to square off for the first time last season, but the game was cancelled due to weather.
Tickets: General Admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. Students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UT ID.
