LAKELAND, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team won its fifth straight Sunshine State Conference game with a 2-0 shutout of Florida Southern College in the first of a three-game league series.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
TOP 3ND | The Spartans got on the board following a single by shortstop Stephanie Balmer and a double by senior second baseman Cristina Clauberg. Corynn Miner singled in the first UT run of the inning as Mariah Galhouse drove in the second run on a sacrifice fly. || UT 2, FSC 0
BOT 6TH | Miner had a no-hitter until Alex Mace had a leadoff single to open the Mocs part of the inning. Florida Southern’s next hitter reached on a fielder’s choice, as Miner retired the next three FSC hitters to keep the shutout intact. || UT 2, FSC 0
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Miner allowed just one hit while striking out five Mocs in 7.0 scoreless innings.
- The lone extra-base hit on the night was Clauberg’s double.
- Miner also led the Spartans at the plate with a pair of hits and a walk along with her RBI.
- Four of Tampa’s six hits came from the top three hitters of Balmer, Clauberg and Miner.
- 69 of Miner’s 89 pitches were strikes.
- Miner leads the Spartans with 13 RBI, followed by Clauberg and Galhouse with 11 apiece.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans have now won nine straight games dating back to February 22 against Saint Leo.
- This is the 10th complete game of the season and 25th in Miner’s career.
- Miner now has six shutouts this season.
- This marks the second one-hitter of the season in 7.0 innings for Miner with the3 other coming in a shutout win over then-No. 24 Valdosta State.
