Women’s Lacrosse Ranked Sixth in IWLCA Poll

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s lacrosse has been ranked in the top-10 of the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) poll. The Spartans enter the year as the sixth ranked team in the nation, after finishing the 2019 season with a 14-4 record.
UT ended the 2019 season as the seventh ranked in the nation after falling to Queens University of Charlotte in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Last season was the first time the Spartans made the NCAA postseason in program history.
During the 2019 season, the Spartans claimed their first SSC championship and Claire Swanson became the first player in program history to be named conference Player of the Year. Swanson and Carly Vaccaro were also the first players in program history to earn All-American honors, earning first-team and third-team respectively.
Three other Sunshine State Conference schools are in the poll, as Rollins College is ranked seventh, Florida Southern is ranked eighth, and Saint Leo is ranked 23rd. The Spartans have six games against teams ranked in the preseason poll, with their first game against a ranked opponent happening February 25th in a home game against ninth ranked Lindenwood University.
The Spartans will open up the season on February 7th as they welcome in the University of Alabama in Huntsville Chargers.
