TAMPA, Fla. – In the IWLCA Division II Coaches poll announced on Monday, April 1, the University of Tampa women’s lacrosse program was tabbed the No. 6 best team in the nation. Tampa earns this rank after UPSETTING the previously ranked No. 3 Florida Southern College Moccasins by a final score of 16-14. This is the highest IWLCA rank for the Spartans in program history. 

Le Moyne College (9-0) took the top spot in the Division II Coaches Poll with all 25 first-place votes, but the remainder of the top five was shaken after the second, third, and fourth-ranked teams suffered losses last week. Rollins (10-0) surged into the second spot, Adelphi (8-1) dropped to third, Lindenwood (10-0) improved to fourth, and LIU Post (8-2) entered the top five for the first time in 2019 on the strength of their 10-9 win over Adelphi last Saturday. Tampa (8-2) jumped four spots after they beat Florida Southern, 16-14, to land at #6. West Chester (7-2), Florida Southern (9-2), East Stroudsburg (8-2), and Regis (1-0) round out the top ten.

The Top-25 action begins on Tuesday this week, when #17 Assumption hosts #1 Le Moyne, #16 Pace welcomes New Haven (#T-19) to campus, and #15 Mercy visits West Chester (#7), and the #2 ranked Rollins squad visits #8 Florida Southern on Wednesday. The weekend’s game includes #18 Merrimack at Adelphi, #5 LIU Post at Mercy, and Colorado Mesa (#T-12) at #10 Regis.

The 2019 Coaches Poll will include 25 teams and be released weekly during the regular season. The final regular season poll for the 2019 season will be published on May 6.
