UT Takes Game One of Top-10 Matchup With Georgia College
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The University of Tampa won its second straight game with a victory over sixth-ranked Georgia College in the first of a four-game series.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

All-time Series: Tampa now holds a 50-21 lead in the all-time series, including wins in the last three games. This is also the fifth-straight Spartan win in Milledgeville.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After going down in order in the top of the first, UT struck for five runs in the second inning.
- The scoring started on a Danny Maynard RBI double that scored Alec Aleywine. Stephen Smith would follow with an RBI single as Nick DeTringo would plate two Spartans on a single of his own. The fifth Spartan run of the fame came on a sacrifice fly by Drew Ehrhard.
- UT added its sixth run in the sixth inning courtesy of GCSU’s third error of the game.
- The Spartans made it 7-0 in the ninth as Mikey Navarette singled home Maynard.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Starting pitcher Keven Pimentel tossed an impressive 7.0 scoreless innings, allowing just five hits while striking out six Bobcats.
- Tyler Beck and John Pichman each tossed a hitless inning in relief.
- Aleywine continued his hot start to 2019 as the Spartan cleanup hitter went 2-for-3 with a pair of walks and a run scored.
- Maynard finished with two hits and also scored three runs and drove in another.
- DeTringo and Navarette each registered a pair of hits as DeTringo also swiped his second bag of the season.
OUTSIDE THE BOX:
- This marks UT’s second-straight win over a nationally-ranked opponent after winning last week against No. 1 North Greenville.
- Three of UT’s four games in 2019 have been against a ranked opponent.
- UT and GCSU have now met every season since 1995, making it 25 consecutive years for the non-conference opponents.
- Head coach Joe Urso now stands at 788 career wins as the all-time winningest coach in UT history is approaching another milestone.
