UT Spartan Incubator Accepts a Record Number of New Businesses

[ad_1]

Tampa – Ranging from an AI legal assistant to a mobile vendor of fresh cut flowers, a record number of companies – 21 – were recently accepted into The University of Tampa’s Spartan Incubator program for this academic year.

The Spartan Incubator, which opened four years ago, is located in UT’s John P. Lowth Entrepreneurship Center in the Sykes College of Business. The program pairs participants with a team of experts to help them launch their current startup to a full-grown business.

The 21 companies set a record for participation in the incubator.

Over four dozen companies have already successfully completed the incubator program. One of those companies, The Natural Nipple, recently was awarded a $50,000 grant in the Johnson & Johnson Nurses Innovate QuickFire Challenge. Incubator businesses have received more than $1.5 million in seed funding since fall 2015.

The incubator is open to anyone in the region, and includes both resident companies as well as companies that are off-site and participate in incubator activities without having dedicated space in the facility.

The University of Tampa is a private, residential university located on 110 acres on the riverfront in downtown Tampa. Known for academic excellence, personal attention and real-world experience in its undergraduate and graduate programs, the University serves approximately 9,300 students from 50 states and 132 countries. Approximately 62 percent of full-time students live on campus, and about half of UT students are from Florida.
