UT Baseball Set for SSC Series With Rollins

TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 5 ranked University of Tampa baseball team is set to host Rollins College in Sunshine State Conference matchup after being named top-seed in the NCAA South Region.

About the Spartans: Tampa swept its last series against the No. 13 University of North Georgia to put them atop of the regional rankings. Senior catcher led the way, going 6-for-14 at the plate with three home runs, five runs scored, and six RBI across the three games to earn SSC Player of the Week honors. The Spartans are sitting at an .319 batting average on the season as outfielder Yorvis Torrealba leads the team with a .404 average. Alec Aleywine has slugged seven home runs with 31 RBI. There are five Spartans with five or more home runs on the year including Nick Derr who adds a .326 average. Keven Pimentel continues anchors the pitching staff with a 3.01 ERA while striking out 72 opposing batters in 74.2 innings. Mason Duke (8-0, 2.09 ERA) and James Reynolds (2-0, 1.66 ERA) will start Saturday while Tyler Beck (1.97 ERA, 7 SV, 32.0 IP) and Jacinto Arredondo (2.45 ERA, 29.1 IP) have proved themselves as the top bullpen arms with former starter Tanner Foster (4.37 ERA, 47.1 IP) eating up innings for the Spartans.
About the Tars: Rollins enters the series after winning a close mid-week SSC game on the road over defending South Region champion Florida Southern. The Tars haven taken two of three over Saint Leo, Nova, Eckerd, and Florida Southern while staying away from being swept by any SSC rivals. Jack Gonzalez leads the team with a .348 average as Cameron Montgomery adds seven home runs and 23 RBI. Rollins is second in the conference when it comes to pitching collecting a team ERA of 3.86. Jimmy Robbins is the ace, bringing a 7-2 record with an ERA of 2.73 and only allowing the opponents to hit a collective 1.93 average. Cameron Enck is not far behind with a 6-3 record and a 3.68 ERA in 71.0 innings pitched.
Series History: The Spartans hold a 119-51 edge in the all-time series and brings a six-game winning streak after sweeping the Tars two season’s series in a row.
