For the first time, various organizations will join USF for supplier diversity day on Oct. 4
TAMPA, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2019) – The University of South Florida is broadening the reach of its supplier diversity initiative by bringing together some of the Tampa Bay region’s largest companies to connect them with businesses owned by minorities, women or veterans.
This week the USF Office of Supplier Diversity hosts its third annual supplier diversity day, and for the first time the event will include organizations from outside USF. Representatives from Tampa General Hospital, the Florida Association of Veteran Affairs, the Florida Department of Children and Families and nearly a dozen other agencies from the State of Florida are all expected to attend. The event takes place from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 in the Marshall Student Center at USF.
The event pulls together local businesses with key purchasers, aiming to strengthen relationships, further educate vendors about procurement processes and offer guidance for successfully competing for future business opportunities at USF and other organizations. Participants can also attend six different workshops on topics such as ‘Doing Business Globally’ and ‘Bidding & Estimating.’ Approximately 300 people have registered for this event.
Since USF launched its strategic initiative in early 2017 to increase spending with businesses owned by minorities, women and veterans, the university has spent more than $80 million dollars with diverse-owned suppliers. For the 2018-19 fiscal year, USF increased nearly $8 million in spending from the previous year.
These significant advances show USF’s commitment to supporting diversity and inclusion. The office of supplier diversity also educates USF staff and faculty on best practices for considering minority, woman and veteran-owned businesses when making purchases.
