Tom Hanks‘ historic new adventure film “News of the World” will be released on Christmas Day (December 25), 2020.

The actor portrays Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd in the movie adaptation of author Paulette Jiles’ best-selling novel, which is set just five years after the conclusion of the American Civil War in 1865.

Hanks’ character is hired to take a 10-year-old girl across hundreds of miles of dangerous frontier to return her to her biological aunt and uncle.

The pair faces a number of threats from humans and nature as they trek across the wilderness.

Hanks reunites with his “Captain Phillips” director Paul Greengrass for “News of the World”, which will compete with “West Side Story“, Eddie Murphy‘s “Coming 2 America“, “Uncharted” starring Tom Holland, and sci-fi epic “Dune” at the holiday box office next year.
