ICYMI – In case you missed it, women’s basketball and men’s basketball were in action this week for a pair of games each.
Women’s basketball had a pair of games last week as they traveled for both games, facing off against Florida Southern College and Nova Southeastern University. In the Wednesday game against Florida Southern, the Spartans pulled out a 65-60 victory. Aliyah Abney led the way for UT as she scored a game high 19 points. Dori Nagy would also add a double-double, scoring 11 points and pulling in 11 rebounds. In the game against Nova Southeastern, the Spartans pulled out a 67-66 win. Nagy led the way for Tampa as she scored a career-high 28 points and pulled in nine rebounds in the victory. With the victories, UT moved their win streak to 12 games, and they now sit at 11-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Men’s basketball was also on the road against the ninth ranked FSC Mocs and the eighth ranked NSU Sharks. In the game against Florida Southern, the Spartans would fall by a final score of 85-77. Pat Bacon led the way with 32 points for UT. In the game against NSU, UT would fall by a final score of 130-76. Bacon would score 24 and Martin Lakovic would add 23 points in the loss.
THIS WEEK
Women’s basketball will be back in action with a pair of games as they host Eckerd College on Wednesday and travel to Rollins College on Saturday. This will be the second time Tampa will play each team, as UT defeated both teams earlier this year. The game on Wednesday will begin at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday’s game will begin at 2:00 p.m.
Men’s basketball will also be in action for a pair of games against Eckerd and Rollins. The Spartans have lost to both teams earlier in the year. Wednesday’s game will start at 7:30 p.m., while Saturday’s game will start at 4:00 p.m.
Baseball will begin their 2020 season on Friday as they host the University of Mount Olive. On Saturday, they will host Queens College of Charlotte at 5:00 p.m. Then on Sunday, the Spartans will wrap up their opening weekend with a home contest against Georgia College. Friday and Saturday’s games will begin at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday’s game will start at 3:00 p.m. Tampa starts the season as the sixth ranked team in the nation and the favorite to win the SSC.
Softball will begin their 2020 season on Saturday as they host a double header against Ursuline College. The first game is set to begin at noon with the second game slated for 2:00 p.m. On Sunday, UT will host another doubleheader against the Newberry College Wolves. Those games are also scheduled for noon and 2:00 p.m.
