ICYMI – In case you missed it, volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s and women’s golf were all in action this past week.
Volleyball had a perfect 3-0 record during the week as they defeated Eckerd, Palm Beach Atlantic, and Barry. Against Eckerd, the Spartans and Tritons battled out to five sets, with Tampa coming away with the victory. On Friday night, Palm Beach Atlantic came into the Martinez Center, where the Spartans came away victorious in three sets. On Saturday night, Barry came into the Martinez Center. The Bucs would go on to win the first two sets and were leading 22-15 in the third set before UT used a ferocious comeback to win the match in five-sets.
Women’s soccer played in one game as they traveled to Melbourne to face off against the Florida Tech Panthers. The Spartans dominated the game as they handed the Panthers a 4-0 defeat. Elena Barr scored two goals, while Ashley Loeza and Jalyssa Richardson scored the other two goals.
Men’s soccer had a pair of home games this week. The Spartans would go on to drop both games, as they lost to Florida National 3-2 and lost to #16 Florida Tech 3-0. In the game against Florida National, Amgad Salah and Trevor Stanley would score for Tampa.
Women’s golf traveled to Puerto Rico as they participated in the Illinois-Springfield Invitational. UT would dominate the tournament as they had four golfers place in the top 10, including first, second and third place. Kiira Riihijarvi finished first, Hallie Riley would finish second and Emily Montagnino finished third. As a team Tampa shot 591, finishing 55 strokes better than second-place Shorter.
Men’s golf was in Orlando as they were at the McDonough Cup. As a team, UT finished 12th as Robert Montagnino led the way with a 10th place finish.
This Week:
Volleyball: The volleyball team will have three games on the road this week. On Tuesday night they will travel to Lakeland as they will take on the Florida Southern Moccasins. On Friday, the Spartans will be in South Florida as they face off against the Lynn Fighting Knights. Then on Saturday, UT wraps up the road trip as they face off against the Nova Southeastern Sharks. The games against FSC and LU start at 7:00 p.m. and the game against NSU starts at 3:00 p.m.
Women’s Soccer: The women’s soccer team has one game this week as they face off against Florida Southern at home. This game is a makeup from the postponement earlier in the year. The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m.
Men’s Soccer: The men’s soccer team will hit the road as they will face off against Union University in Jackson, Tenn. This game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
Women’s Basketball: The women’s basketball team will kick-off the 2019-20 season at home as they are hosting the Spartan Crossover. On Friday, Tampa will open their season against Spring Hill, and then on Saturday, they will face off against West Georgia. Both of these games are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Martinez Center.
Men’s Basketball: The men’s basketball team will be traveling to Montevallo, Ala. as they will be playing in the SSC/GSC Crossover. On Saturday UT will face off against Montevallo and then on Sunday, they will be squaring off against Alabama-Huntsville. Both of these games are set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
Swimming: Both men’s and women’s swimming teams will be on the road as they travel to Ft. Lauderdale to race against Nova Southeastern. Entering the week, the women’s team is ranked sixth and the men’s team is ranked 13th. The NSU men’s team is currently ranked ninth, while their women’s team is ranked fourth. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
Cross Country: Both cross country teams will be in Lakeland on Saturday morning, as both teams are running in the NCAA South Regional.
Rowing: The rowing team will be in Augusta, Ga.as they will be racing at the Head of the South.
