The Tampa Rundown – University of Tampa Athletics



ICYMI- In case you missed it, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer and volleyball were all in action this past week.

Volleyball hit the east coast of Florida as they traveled to Melbourne to take on Florida Tech and Daytona Beach as they faced Embry-Riddle. On Friday against Florida Tech, the Spartans won the match by a final of 3-1. On Saturday, Tampa faced first-place Embry Riddle, as the Spartans defeated the Eagles in four sets. In the matchup against Embry-Riddle, Melissa Elias recorded the second triple-double in program history. Sammy Mueller also had a strong weekend, as the senior setter was elected the Sunshine State Conference  Setter of the Week. 

Women’s soccer played in one game, as they traveled to Fort Lauderdale to face the first place Nova Southeastern Sharks. The Spartans and the Sharks battled to a 0-0 draw. Megan Bromwell recorded three saves and the Spartans outshot the Sharks nine to six.

Men’s soccer had two games this week. On Wednesday, Tampa traveled to Florida Southern as they tied with the Mocs 1-1. Amgad Salah scored the UT goal in the game. On Saturday, Nova Southeastern came into Pepin Stadium. The Sharks used a pair of goals to win the game 2-0.

The women’s cross country team participated at the Florida State Invitational in Tallahassee, Florida last Friday. The women came in third overall and were the top finishers in Division II. Zoe Jarvis was the top finisher for UT as she finished sixth overall. Aspen Gordon also recorded a top 20 finish for the Spartans. Jarvis would go on to win her third SSC Runner of the Week this season. 

Men’s cross country also raced at the Florida State Invitational as they finished eighth overall and second for the non-Division I schools. Tyler Roberts was the top finisher for the Spartans, as he finished 37th overall.

Women’s golf participated in the Nova Southeastern Invitational. Overall the Spartans took second place, finishing behind the host school Nova Southeastern. Kiira Riihijarvi finished first overall for Tampa, with Sofia Cadavid finishing second overall for the Spartans.

Men’s Golf participated in their first tournament under new head coach Gary Hilton. At the Golfweek DII Fall Invitational, the Spartans finished ninth overall. Pablo Willis was the top finisher for Tampa as he finished 20th overall.

This Week

Men’s Soccer- The men’s soccer team will travel to Boca Raton as they will face off against the Lynn Fighting Knights. The Knights are currently tied for first and kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

Women’s Soccer – The women’s team will be back at home on Saturday as they welcome in Lynn. The game is set to being at 6:00 p.m.

Volleyball – The volleyball team will head to Hoover, Alabama as they will participate in the SSC/GSC Crossover. On Friday, Tampa will square off against the University of West Georgia at 4:45 p.m. On Saturday, UT will have two games as they play the University of Auburn-Montgomery at 11:15 a.m. and then play the University of Alabama in Huntsville at 7:00 p.m.

Women’s Golf – This week the women’s golf team will be in action in Dade City, Florida, as they will participate in the Saint Leo Invitational. Round one is set for today and round two is set for Tuesday.

Rowing – On Saturday, the rowing team will be racing at the Head of the Pass. That race will take place in Tampa.
