The Tampa Rundown – University of Tampa Athletics
ICYMI- In case you missed it, men’s and women’s soccer, along with volleyball were all in action this past week.
Men’s soccer had a perfect week as they defeated the Thomas Night Hawks on Tuesday and defeated the defending National Champions, Barry University on Saturday night. In a 4-3 double overtime victory over Thomas, four different Spartans scored. Omar Thali, Josh Magrath and Rojay Smith scored during regulation. In the second overtime, freshman Trevor Stanley scored the game winning goal. In the victory over the Barry Buccaneers, Thali and Smith scored the goals for the Spartans. Following the week, the Spartans now hold a 3-2 overall record and sit at 1-0 in SSC play. Following the week, Smith was named Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Women’s Soccer played one game this week as they defeated the Barry Buccaneers in their conference opener. On Saturday night, UT used a goal from Jalyssa Richardson to defeat BU 1-0. Megan Bromwell recorded five saves to earn the shutout for Tampa. The Spartans now sit at 1-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play. Following the week, Bromwell was named Sunshine State Conference Defensive Player of the Week.
Volleyball played two matches this week as they faced off against Eckerd College and Saint Leo University. In the match against Eckerd, the Spartans swept the Tritons earning a 3-0 win. Mackenzie Dufresne and Kamari Potter were an offensive force upfront as the middle blockers each recorded eight kills. Against Saint Leo, Tampa won the first set but dropped the next three, losing 3-1. Against the Lions Katie McKiel and Sorrel Houghton each recorded double-digit kills with 16 and 12 respectively. The Spartans now sit at 5-5 on the year and 1-1 in SSC play.
This Week
Men’s Soccer- UT will be in action for a pair of SSC games. Tampa will face Eckerd College in a home game on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. and will host Embry-Riddle University Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
Women’s Soccer- The Spartans will also have a pair of conference games this week as they travel to Eckerd on Wednesday and travel to Embry-Riddle on Saturday. Wednesday’s game will be at 7:00 p.m. and they will play at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Volleyball – UT will head to south Florida to play a pair of games this weekend. Friday at 7:00 p.m. the Spartans will face off against Barry University. Saturday at 4:00 p.m. Tampa will face the Palm Beach Atlantic University Sailfish.
Cross Country – Both the men and women’s cross country team will travel to Sacramento, California to race in the Pre-Nationals.
