ICYMI – In Case You Missed It, last week the volleyball team went undefeated in the Courtyard by Marriott-Terrace Hotel Classic. Tampa defeated Indiana University of Pennsylvania and Valdosta State 3-0. They also faced a fair of ranked opponents and beat #17 Central Missouri and #5 Concordia-St. Paul. Following the tournament, Katie McKiel earned Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Both men and women’s cross country traveled up to Georgia, to race in the Valdosta State Invitational. Both teams took first place with Trevor Kattenberg taking first overall in the men’s race and Aspen Gordon taking first overall in the women’s race. Gordon was then awarded with Sunshine State Conference Runner of the Week.
Women’s soccer played a pair of home games as they fell to West Alabama and #13 Mississippi College by a final score of 3-2. Moeko Morse and Libby Wissman recorded the goals against West Alabama. Elena Barr and Morse scored against Mississippi College.
Finally, men’s soccer hit the road as they played an away game at the University of West Florida. The Spartans fell in double overtime, 2-1, with Till Neumann scoring for UT.
This Week’s Events:
Volleyball:
This weekend, the top-ranked Spartans will travel to Denver, Colo. as they will participate in the Colorado Premier Challenge. The Spartans will face tough oppositions over the weekend as many of the top-ranked teams in the nation will be at the tournament. Tampa opens with a double-header on Friday, as they face the 20th ranked Texas A&M Commerce at 1:00 p.m. EST. In the night game, they will square off against Regis University, who is currently receiving votes in the AVCA Coaches Poll, first serve is set for 8:00 p.m. EST. The Spartans are then scheduled for two games on Saturday, with oppositions being determined based on the results from Friday.
Men’s Soccer:
The Spartans will be at home this week for a pair of games. Tampa will have its home opener, Thursday at 7:00 p.m. as they will face Flagler College. On Saturday, UT will welcome in Clayton State for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
Cross Country:
Both the men’s and women’s teams will be headed up to Gainesville, Fla. to race in the Mountain Dew Classic. The men’s race starts at 7:30 a.m. and the women’s race will begin at 8:00 a.m.
Women’s Soccer:
UT will hit the road for the first time this season, as they will travel up to Columbus, Ga. For two games. On Friday, Tampa will face Columbus State University and on Sunday the Spartans will face Montevallo in a neutral site game. Matches are set to start at 7:30 p.m. and 12:30 p.m. respectively.
