The Tampa Rundown – University of Tampa Athletics

ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, over the weekend the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the University of Tampa’s inaugural SPARTY Awards. The first awards of the night were presented to the female and male Scholar-Athlete of the year. The female and male recipients of this award were women’s basketball player, Emily Eshoo, and men’s swimmer, Kellen Broaderick. The 2018-19 Iron Spartan Awards followed. Women’s basketball player, Julia Ingram, and men’s baseball player Steve Mangrum took home these honors. Women’s Cross Country runner Corinne Fanta was then presented with the Freddie Solomon Community Service Award, followed by volleyball’s Katie McKiel earning the highest honor of the night, the Melissa Vanderhall Spartan Cape Award. The final award of the evening was the Stand As One Award presented to the most supportive team. Women’s Lacrosse won this award as voted on by their fellow Spartans. 

This Week’s Events:

Baseball:
This weekend, baseball will travel to SSC rival, Florida Southern for their final regular season series of the 2019 season. Friday’s game will begin at 6:00 p.m., with the doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. respectively. 

Men’s Lacrosse:
The Spartans are set to host Wingate on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Should the Spartans win, they will advance to NCAA Quarterfinals in Gaffney, S.C. 

Rowing:
Rowing will close out their 2019 season competing at the Dad Vail Regatta May 10thand 11thin Philadelphia, Pa. 

Softball:
On Thursday, the Spartans will travel to Pensacola, Florida where they will compete against the Valdosta State Blazers in the NCAA South Regional. Should the Spartans win, they will live to see another day, playing on Friday, May 10th

Women’s Golf:
The women’s golf team is currently competing at the NCAA South Super Regional in Cleveland, Tennessee. The first round of play began today, with the regional closing out on Wednesday. 

Women’s Lacrosse:
For the first time in program history, the University of Tampa women’s lacrosse team will compete in the NCAA tournament. Not only will the Spartans compete for the first time, but they received a No. 1 seed, meaning they will host the first two rounds. UT welcomes Queens on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Should the Spartans win, UT will then host the NCAA Quarterfinals on Sunday, May 12.
