ICYMI:In Case You Missed It, last week the women’s golf team finished in the top ten at the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational. The tennis team enjoyed spring break by traveling to both Honolulu, Hawaii and Oakland, California to earn two wins against Chaminade and Holy Names respectively. The No. 2 ranked Tampa baseball team had an undefeated week, ending it 5-0 on Saturday. First, the Spartans defeated Bridgeport 10-7 on Monday. They then went on to dominate Bentley 15-1 on Wednesday before sweeping the Saint Leo Lions in the weekend series. The Spartans softball team also had an undefeated week. Tampa defeated Southwest Minnesota State University in the two-game series on Tuesday. The UT ladies then went on to sweep the Lynn Fighting Knights in the weekend series in Boca Raton, Fla. Wednesday through Saturday both the men’s and women’s swim teams wrapped up their 2018-19 season competing at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. The women’s team finished the championships 5thoverall, while the men finished 15th. Due to their outstanding seasons 12 Spartans earned All-American honors. We would like to congratulate Elizaveta Bazarova, Molly O’Hara, Hana van Loock, Courtney Sherwood, McKenzie Street, and Megan Waddell on the women’s team. On the men’s team, congratulations to Aaron James, Forrest Lundy, Cameron Newton, Brett Saunders, Yannick Smith, and Brian Valedon. On Friday and Saturday, the women’s basketball team also wrapped up their 2019 season competing in the NCAA tournament. The Spartans defeated the Lee University Flames on Friday 72-63, before falling in the second round to No. 17 Florida Southern by a final score of 76-65. Also over the weekend the University of Tampa men’s and women’s track teams sent runners to a pair of locations, racing both the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. and the Black and Gold Invitational in Orlando, Fla. At the races, four Spartans achieved new personal bests. Finally, to add to Tampa athletics successful week. Both the men’s and women’s lacrosse programs earned wins on Saturday. The men defeated the Westminster College Griffins 17-11, while the No. 10 women’s team handed the University of Alabama-Huntsville their first loss of the season, 15-5.
This Week’s Events:
Baseball:
The No. 2 ranked Spartans will host the Valdosta State Blazers on Wednesday night for a game slated to begin at 5:00 p.m. The Spartans will then travel to Miami Shores, Florida for a weekend series against the Barry University Buccaneers.
Beach Volleyball:
This weekend, the sandy Spartans will travel to Boca Raton to compete at the Florida Atlantic Beach Bash. The Spartans are scheduled to play North Alabama on Friday at 3:00 p.m. They will then play against FIU and FAU in back-to-back duals at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Men’s Golf:
The men’s golf team will travel to Lakewood, Colorado this weekend to compete at the Bob Writz Invitational. The tournament will take place at the Bear Creek Golf Course with the practice round commencing on Friday. Rounds one and two will take place on Saturday and the invitational will close out with round three on Sunday.
Men’s Lacrosse:
Men’s lacrosse hosts two contests this week. First, on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m., UT welcomes the Colorado Mesa Mavericks. On Saturday, Tampa will begin SSC competition with a 1:00 p.m. game against the Embry-Riddle Eagles.
Rowing:
On Saturday, March 23, the rowing team will compete at the John Hunger Regatta in Gainesville, Florida.
Softball:
Softball will compete against Saint Michael’s and Minnesota-Crookston on Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. respectively. Both these games will take place at the Osceola Softball Complex in Kissimmee, Florida. Tampa will then return home to host the Nova Southeastern Sharks in a weekend series. The weekend series begins Friday at 6:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Tennis:
The women’s tennis team will host the University of New Haven Chargers on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, UT will travel to Dayton Beach, Florida to take on the Embry-Riddle Eagles. This match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
Track:
Both the men’s and women’s track teams will compete this weekend at the Bulls Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida.
