ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the women’s golf team finished in the top ten at the Lady Moc Classic in Lakeland, Florida. Women’s basketball ended the week 2-0, defeating the Saint Leo Lions 63-48 on Wednesday, before taking down the Nova Southeastern Sharks by a final score of 66-59 on Saturday. Wednesday night, the men’s basketball team also defeated the Lions, 95-74. Both the men’s and women’s swim teams competed in the Sunshine State Conference Championships. The women’s team was crowned Sunshine State Conference Champions, while the men took home second. Women’s lacrosse had a successful week that started by UPSETTING the No. 11 Limestone College Saints by a final score of 20-11. The lady laxers then went on to down the North Greenville University Crusaders 14-6. The men’s lacrosse team was also successful over the weekend. On Saturday, they took down the No. 17 Lenoir-Rhyne Bears by a final score of 16-11. The wins continued with Tampa Softball. The Spartans defeated conference rival, Florida Southern, 2-1 in the series. Finally, both track teams opened their season on Saturday at the Embry-Riddle First Chance Meet. On the men’s side, seven different Spartans earned top-ten finishes, including Ryan Poholek who won the 800 with a new school record time of 1:53. Teammates, Dalton Morley finished second in this race with a time of 1:53.40, while James Dooley finished ninth. The women also had a successful opening meet. Cassie Highsmith won the 5,000, Mia Yancyand China Cordier finished second and third respectively in the 400, Kei Riley won the 400, and Zoe Jarvis finished second in the 3,000.
This Week’s Events:
Baseball:
This weekend, UT baseball will host the Nova Southeastern Sharks for their weekend series. Friday night’s game will begin at 6:00 p.m. Then on Saturday, the Spartans and Sharks will play a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. respectively.
Beach Volleyball:
Beach Volleyball hosts its home opener on Friday against Tennessee-Martin and Coastal Carolina at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively. On Saturday the sandy Spartans will take on the Jacksonville University Dolphins at 10:00 a.m., and the Eckerd College Tritons at 4:00 p.m.
Men’s Basketball:
Men’s basketball will play its final two regular season conference games of the 2018-19 season. On Wednesday, February 27, Tampa will welcome the Eckerd College Tritons for a game starting at 7:30 p.m. Then on Saturday, the men will play their final regular season game of the year against the Lynn Fighting Knights at 4:00 p.m. in Boca Raton, Fla.
Men’s Golf:
Today the men’s golf team is competing in the opening rounds of the Saint Leo Invitational. The tournament will close out with round three tomorrow.
Men’s Lacrosse:
The No. 12 Tampa Spartans will host Adelphi and Assumption this week. Wednesday’s game against Adelphi will take place at 12:30 p.m. while Saturday, the Spartans will face the Assumption College Greyhounds at 1:00 p.m.
Softball:
The softball team will travel to Winter Park, Florida to take on the Rollins College Tars. Friday’s game will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. respectively.
Track:
Both the men’s and women’s track teams will host the UT Track Invitational on Friday, March 1. The meet will begin at 6:00 p.m. at Pepin Stadium.
Women’s Basketball:
Before the men play on Wednesday, the women will take the court at 5:30 against Eckerd. Tampa will then travel on Saturday to Boca Raton, Florida to take on the Lynn Fighting Knights at 2:00 p.m.
Women’s Lacrosse:
The No. 19 Spartans will travel to Denver, Colorado this weekend where they are set to take on the Regis University Rangers on Saturday, March 2. This game is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.
