The Tampa Rundown – University of Tampa Athletics
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the men’s golf team finished fourth at the Titan Winter Invitational in Melbourne, Florida. Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams ended the week 2-0, defeating the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish and the Florida Tech Panthers. The women defeated the Sailfish 57-54 on Wednesday, before downing the Panthers 65-52 on Saturday. The men defeated PBA and Florida Tech 66-63, and 81-63 respectively. Softball ended the weekend with a 4-1 record. On Friday, the Spartans defeated Indianapolis 6-0 before shutting out West Georgia in a similar fashion. On Saturday, the squad defeated No. 8 West Chester 2-1, before losing their first game of the season to No. 2 Southern Arkansas 8-0. To close out the weekend, softball beat the No. 22 Valdosta State Blazers by a final score of 2-1. Baseball also had a successful weekend against the No. 6 Georgia College Bobcats. The Spartans defeated the Bobcats in all four games 7-0, 15-3, 6-1, and 14-8 respectively.
This Week’s Events:
Baseball:
This weekend, UT baseball will host its home opener in a weekend series against LIU Post. Friday night’s game will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 2:00 p.m. showdown on Saturday. Finally, on Sunday, the Spartans will close out the series with the Pioneers at 1:00 p.m.
Men’s Basketball:
Men’s basketball travels to Winter Park, Florida for a midweek battle with the Rollins College Tars. This game is slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
Men’s Lacrosse:
The No. 6 Tampa Spartans will face SSC rival, Florida Southern, on Saturday, February 16, in Orlando, Florida. The game is a neutral site match and is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Lake Highland Preparatory School.
Softball:
The softball team is set to open up conference competition at Eckerd, in St. Petersburg, Florida. Friday’s game will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Women’s Basketball:
Before the men play on Wednesday, the women will take the court at the Harold and Ted Alfond Sports Center at 5:30 p.m. against the Rollins College Tars.
Women’s Lacrosse:
The No. 19 Spartans are set to host the Queens Royals in their home opener on Saturday, February 16. The first draw will take place at 1:00 p.m.
