The Tampa Rundown – University of Tampa Athletics
ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, last week the women’s basketball team defeated both the Eckerd College Tritons and the Barry University Buccaneers by final scores of 71-66 and 64-63. The men’s team also played the Tritons and Buccaneers, losing both games 69-59 and 71-62 respectively.
This Week’s Events:
Baseball:
UT baseball is back! The Spartans will kick off their 2019 campaign this weekend with games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. First, on Friday, Tampa will take on the Lander University Bearcats at 1:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Spartans will battle the Trojans of Mount Olive at noon. Finally, to close out opening weekend, UT will take on the NGU Crusaders also at 12:00 p.m. All of the Spartans games will take place at the Yankees Complex Main Field in Tampa, Florida.
Men’s Basketball:
This week, the men will host SSC rival, Florida Southern, Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. Before the game begins, Coach Schmidt will be recognized for his recent 700thcareer win. During halftime of the game, the university will honor the women’s volleyball team for winning the 2018 National Championship. The men will then take the court again on Saturday, welcoming the Embry-Riddle Eagles, for a 4:00 p.m. start.
Men’s Golf:
On Sunday, the men’s golf team will begin the practice round of the Titan Winter Invitational. The Invitational will take place in Melbourne, Florida at the Sun Tree Country Club.
Men’s Lacrosse:
The 2018 Sunshine State Conference Tournament Champions will begin their 2019 season on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. game against the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in Savannah, Ga.
Softball:
The softball team is set to host Ursuline College for their home opener in a doubleheader on Sunday, February 3rd. The games will take place at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. at the Naimoli Family Softball Field.
Women’s Basketball:
Before the men play Wednesday, the women will take the court at 5:30 p.m. Prior to the start of the battle with the Moccasins, Coach Jessee will be recognized for his recent 500thgame win. Then on Saturday, the Spartans will host the Embry-Riddle Eagles for a 2:00 p.m. start.
Women’s Golf:
The women’s golf team will compete at the Flagler World Invitational at the Slammer and Squire Golf Course in St. Augustine, Florida. The practice round of the tournament will begin on Saturday, followed by round one on Sunday, and round two on Monday.
Women’s Tennis:
Finally, the women’s tennis team will kick off their 2019 spring season hosting the UT Invitational Friday through Sunday. The Spartans will battle Florida Southern, Florida Tech, and Saint Pete College with times TBA.
