ICYMI: In Case You Missed It, over the Thanksgiving holiday, the women’s basketball traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska where they competed in a tournament against Gannon and Alaska-Fairbanks. The Spartans defeated both the Golden Knights and the Nanooks 63-45 and 67-49 respectively, and return to the sunshine state with a perfect 5-0 record. This is the best start for the Spartans since the 2012 season. The men’s team also competed over the holiday in the Eckerd Thanksgiving Classic in St. Petersburg, Florida. Tampa fell to Minnesota State-Mankato on Friday 75-61, then bounced back to defeat Virginia Union 67-66 on Saturday.
This Week’s Events:
Men’s Basketball:
This week, conference competition begins, with Tampa opening up against rival, Florida Southern on Wednesday night. The Spartans will take on the Moccasins at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, after the conclusion of the women’s game. Saturday, also after the women play, UT hots Barry University of a 4:00 p.m. start.
Women’s Basketball:
As mentioned previously, SSC competition begins this week. The women will play before the men on both Wednesday and Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. respectively. They will travel to Florida Southern on Wednesday, before hosting Barry on Saturday.
Women’s Cross Country:
This weekend, Zoe Jarvis will be traveling to Pittsburgh, Pa. representing the University of Tampa at the NCAA Championships. The race begins Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
Volleyball:
Tampa volleyball will also travel to Pittsburgh, Pa. where they have been seeded as the No. 1 overall seed entering the elite eight. Thursday at 5:00 p.m., the Spartans will take on American International College in the NCAA Quarterfinals. Should the Spartans win, they will then compete in the Semifinals on Friday against the winner of the Wingate vs. Washburn match. The national championship match will be held on December 1st at 3:00 p.m.
