Tampa Women’s Soccer Set to Welcome Palm Beach Atlantic

TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa women’s soccer team will take on a Palm Beach Atlantic squad vying position in the middle of the Sunshine State Conference standings.
The Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans (2-5, 2-1 SSC) vs. Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (4-2, 1-1 SSC)
Date/Time: Saturday, October 5 at 7 p.m.

About the Spartans: Tampa has had a slow start to the 2019 season losing their first five contests. The Spartans have turned around their fortunes in SSC play, winning two of the last three. Most recently, UT lost a close-contested one-goal game at Embry Riddle, 2-1. The contest occurred last Saturday, September 28th, and Tampa will play on a full week’s rest for the second time this season. Last time the Spartans were well-rested they defeated Barry (September 21). Head coach Erin Switalski‘s side is led by three players, Moeko Morse, Jalyssa Richardson, and Libby Wissman, who each have two goals on the season. Goalkeeper Megan Bromwell has made all 7 starts for the team.
About the Sailfish: PBA has won three of their last four contests and has a 2-1 record both home and away to date this season. Most recently, the Sailfish lost on home soil against the Saint Leo Lions, 2-1, on Saturday, September 28. In six contests the Sailfish have scored nine goals. Impressively, the team has only conceded 5 goals this season. Palm Beach has played exceptional defense allowing less than 6 shots on goal per game along with three shutouts. Offensively, the Sailfish are led by Michaela Boyd in goals with 3. Karina Williams has the teams’ only two assists on the season and has two goals to her credit as well. Coach Chris Gnehm’s side went 8-7-2 a season ago.
All-Time Series: Tampa has dominated the all-time series between these two universities with a 13-1-1 record in 15 competitions. PBA has not won a game against the Spartans since before the turn of the century (October 1, 1999). Tampa has won nine of the last ten contests. Most recently Tampa and PBA played to a 0-0 draw on September 22, 2018, in West Palm Beach.
Tickets: General Admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. Students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UT ID.
