TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s and women’s swimming teams are set to open their 2019-20 season at home on Saturday against Sunshine State Conference opponent Rollins College.

Women’s Matchup: No. 6 University of Tampa Spartans vs. Rollins College Tars

Date/Time: Saturday, October 19 at 10:30 a.m.

Last Time Out: The Spartans are coming off a season where the women finished fifth in the nation at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. The men also competed to a 15th-place effort at the championships. 

About the Spartans: UT returns several All-Americans, including four men and five women. Among the returning men’s All-Americans are Aaron James, Brett Saunders, Yannick Smith and Brian Valedon. Women’s All-Americans Elizaveta Bazarova, Maureen Moore, Molly O’Hara, Hana van Loock and Courtney Sherwood return for third-year head coach Jimi Kiner. UT is also coming off a pair of impressive showings at the SSC Championships last season, with its women claiming the team championship while the men were second.

About the Tars: The Tars dove into their season opener against Nova Southeastern two weeks ago hosting the nationally ranked Sharks at home. Rollins fell to the NSU 148-57 in the competition. Sophomore Christian Huber was an event winner in the 50-yard freestyle and runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle. Freshman Connor Xu stood out in his first collegiate action. Xu came in second in both the 500-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke. Asa Marvel also put up some great times, coming in second place in the 200-yard butterfly.
