TAMPA, Fla. – The Spartans and Mocs meet for the final regular-season match-up of 2019.

 

The Matchup: University of Tampa Spartans (5-7-1, 5-3-1 SSC) vs. Florida Southern College Moccasins (4-8-2, 1-6-2 SSC)

About the Spartans: On Saturday, Tampa outplayed the Florida Tech Panthers on the road in a 4-0 lopsided victory. The Spartans outshot the Panthers 21-5 in the contest and scored twice in both the first and second halves. Forward Elena Barr was fantastic in her homecoming game. The Melbourne native scored two unassisted goals, bringing her total to five on the season (leading all Spartans’ players). Tampa faced only two shots-on-goal in the game and recorded their sixth shutout of the season (all against conference opponents). The Spartans are locked in the fifth position in the SSC standings as they are one game back from Embry-Riddle who has the head-to-head advantage.

 

About the Moccasins: The Mocs have lost their last three games, scoring a combined one goal against Barry, Embry-Riddle, and Saint Leo. Offense has been a struggle for Florida Southern this season as the team has only scored 0.54 goals per game this season (0.25 goals per game in SSC play). On the road, the Mocs have a 1.61 goals allowed average compared to an average of 0.63 when home. Freshman goalkeeper Jenny Staten has been a bright spot for Southern as she has started every game this season (1.09 GAA).

 

All-Time Series: Tampa leads the series dating back to 1998 with a 20-6-2 record against Florida Southern. Tampa has a 7-2-1 advantage in the last 10 games and won last seasons’ contest 3-2 in Lakeland (September 29, 2018). Tampa owns a 10-3-1 home record as well.

 

Tickets: General Admission ticket prices for all Tampa regular season athletic events are $5. Youth (ages 12 and under) are admitted free of charge. Students and faculty/staff are admitted free with a valid UT ID.
