Tampa Cross Country to Compete at NCAA Championships
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Tampa women’s cross country team is set to run at the 2019 NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. California State, Sacramento and the Sacramento Sports Commission will serve as the official hosts for the event at the Arcade Creek Cross Country Course in Sacramento, California.
The Spartans are coming off a second-place finish at the 2019 NCAA South Regional in Lakeland, Fla. Junior Zoe Jarvis paced the Spartans as she finished fourth overall in the 6K. Teammate Monika Brill joined Jarvis in the top-10 with a seventh-place finish. Sydney Rhodes and senior Julia Lockridge followed at 12th and 20th respectively while Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year Aspen Gordon was 23rd.
Tampa has competed in a total of seven competitions in the 2019 season, finishing first in three events including the Valdosta State and the Mountain Dew Invite along with the 2019 SSC Championships.
This marks the 14th appearance at the NCAA Championships for Tampa women’s cross country with each coming under the leadership of head coach Jarrett Slaven. This is the first appearance since 2015 for the Spartans, who are looking to finish in the top-20 for the first time since 2011.
