About Rene Martinez, Sr.
The native Tampan, born on December 12, 1941, was a graduate of Jefferson High School and the University of Tampa. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Sylvia, and a proud father to his three sons, Rene Jr., Tino and Tony.
Rene set a lifelong example for many of us to follow. The words of dedication, loyalty, love, understanding, friendship, and assistance were not an utterance, but a way of life with Rene. He touched many lives and offered his endless help to those who needed it.
He quietly involved himself in the University of Tampa Baseball Program in 1982. He was a loyal fundraiser, recruiter, and spokesman in the community. Rene was a devoted consultant, mentor, friend, and Godfather for three generations of Spartan Baseball coaches. His involvement began before his sons achieved their stardom under the minarets and continued eons after they passed through the doors of Plant Hall.
