Swimming Enjoys Sweep of Rollins in Home Opener
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s and women’s swimming teams hosted Rollins College in its 2019-20 home opener and came away with a pair of wins over the visiting Tars in a Sunshine State Conference matchup.

Men’s Final: No. 13 Tampa Spartans 117, Rollins Tars 83
Women’s Final: No. 6 Tampa Spartans 114.5, Rollins Tars 85.5

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The meet totaled 22 events, including 11 for the men and 11 for the women.
- Tampa’s women took first in nine of the races.
- The Spartan men took eight first-place finishes, including both relays.
TOP PERFORMERS (MEN):
- The 400 Medley Relay was the first men’s event, and Tampa won in a time of 3:27.01. The team consisted of Hugo Bustamante, Youssef Khowessah, Luke Hene and Yannick Smith. UT had the top-four finishes in the event.
- In the 1,000 Free, Marcos Hillje-Enthoven, was the first swimmer to finish as his time was 9:58.35.
- Freshman Thomas Hughson was the first of four Spartans in the top four of the 200 Free as he was timed at 1:45.46.
- The 50 Free was won by Smith as his time was 21.35.
- Gabe Parnell won the 200 IM as he finished with a 1:56.93 time.
- The 100 Free saw Jared Fitzgerald finished first with a winning time of 47.11.
- Brett Saunders had a time of 1:53.04 to win the 200 Back.
- The Spartans finished the day with a first-place 200 Free Relay time of 1:24.86 from Fitzgerald, Aaron James, Smith and Andre Richardson.
TOP PERFORMERS (WOMEN):
- UT took first in the meet’s opening race, the 400 Medley Relay, in a time of 3:57.08. UT’s team included Courtney Sherwood, Julia Augustsson, Molly O’Hara and Elizaveta Bazarova.
- The 1,000 Free was championed by Jessie Tobin with a time of 10:34.46. She would later win the 500 Free as she was clocked at 5:13.03.
- After being part of a first-place relay team, Bazarova took the top finish in the 200 Free with an effort of 1:58.34.
- O’Hara won the 50 Free in 24.64.
- The 200 IM had a Spartan in the top four spots, led by Tone Nilsen and her time of 2:12.42.
- Hana van Loock had a time of 52.87 in a first-place 100 Free effort.
- Freshman Madelaine Lauger was the fastest swimmer in the 200 Back with a time of 2:10.40.
- Augustsson was first at 2:27.61 in the 200 Breast.

Tampa travels to Fort Lauderdale for another SSC matchup as it meets Nova Southeastern University on Saturday, November 9 at 10 a.m.
