TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa rowing team competed at the University of South Florida Spring Race on Sunday.

In the Varsity 8+ race, the UT Varsity Women’s 8+ won by finishing with a time of 5:55, beating USF who had a time of 6:07. From stern to bow the rowers were Bridget Maxwell, Kiara Williams, Abbey Grau, Sam Stewart, Sarah Manno, Marissa Henderson, Brooke Rogers, Cassie Bricker and coxswain Maxie-Lew Dunn. 

UT also won the Novice 4+ Race as the Women’s lightweight 4+ boat won by finishing with a time of 6:21.71. From stern to bow the rowers were Kayla Bell, Liv Nikopoulos, Sienna Gutierrez, Grace McGhee and coxswain Jess Barone. In second place was the UT Novice 4+ with a time of 6:49.11. From stern to bow the rowers were Lauren Blake, Savannah Martin, Sam Volkens, Katie Sturmer and coxswain Reagan Bieze. The USF novice 4+ finished third with a time of 7:04.5.

The UT Varsity Women’s lightweight 4+ won with a time of 6:06. From stern to bow the rowers were Sarah Manno, Marissa Henderson, Brooke Rogers, Cassie Bricker and coxswain Maxie-Lew Dunn. UT Varsity Women’s 2x finished second with a time of 6:08.23. Rowers were Erin Hanson and Hanna Vernetti. UT Varsity Women’s 4+ finished third with a time of 6:23.53. From stern to bow the rowers were Bridget Maxwell, Kiara Williams, Abbey Grau, Sam Stewart and coxswain Erin Winslow. The USF Varsity 4+ finished in fourth with a time of 4:46.67. The USF varsity 2x finished fifth with a time of 7:09.

The UT Novice Women’s 8+ won with a time of 6:05 beating USF who had a time of 6:37.29. From stern to bow the rowers were Lauren Blake, Kayla Bell, Sienna Gutierrez, Savannah Martin, Sam Volkens, Grace McGhee, Katie Sturmer, Liv Nikopoulos and coxswain Jess Barone.

The Spartans are back in action on Saturday, March 23 at the John Hunter Regatta in Gainesville, Ga.
