Spartans Welcome the Westminster Griffins
TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men’s lacrosse team is set to host the Westminster Griffins on Saturday, March 16 at 12:00 p.m.

Last Time Out: The then ranked No. 19 Spartans fell to the No. 12 Lindenwood Lions by a final score of 10-9. In the contest, sophomore Colin White had three goals for the Spartans, followed by Andrew Kew and Chris Cox each with two. Kew along with senior Matt Vetter led the team in assists with two apiece. Defensively, senior captain Luke Robideaux led the way for Tampa with three caused turnovers and four groundballs. Following his efforts was that of Sam Collingwood who tallied three caused turnovers and three groundballs. Ross Dickerson was 18-22 from the faceoff x. Additionally, he tallied 11 ground balls for the Spartans. Both goalkeepers B.J. Borowski and Bryan Karnsplit halves manning the cage. Borowski faced 12 shots recording six saves, while Karn faced eight shots and recorded four saves.
About the Spartans: Tampa is currently 3-4 on the 2019 season, 0-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. The Spartans are led offensively by senior Andrew Kew. Kew has 24 points on the season made up of 12 goals and 12 assists. Fellow senior Matt Vetter is second on the team in points with 22, 13 goals and nine assists. Sophomore Colin White rounds out the top three point scorers for the Spartans. White has 19 points on the season, made up of a team high of 17 goals and two assists. Defensively, Sam Collingwood has nine caused turnovers on top of his seven ground balls, while Luke Robideaux has five caused turnovers and 17 ground balls. Junior Ross Dickerson remains one of the best faceoff specialists in the nation. He currently has the sixth best face-off winning percentage in all Division II with 74.3%. Dickerson has won 139-187 face-offs from the X. Finally, at keeper, the Spartans have been using the combination of returning SSC Freshman of the Year, B.J. Borowski, and senior Bryan Karn. The two have recorded 78 saves on the season, 60 and 18 respectively.
About the Griffins: The Griffins are currently 2-3 overall and have not yet started RMAC competition. Westminster’s three losses have all come from SSC opponents including, Lynn, Rollins, and most recently, Florida Southern. The Griffins are led offensively by #4 Nick Marcy, and #8 Kolton Atkinson who have 22 and 18 points respectively. Atkinson is the Griffin’s leading goal scorer sitting with 16 on the season, while Marcy leads the team in assists with 13. Westminster’s leading defenseman is #12 Chase Flinders who has tallied eight caused turnovers and 19 groundballs thus far in his senior campaign. Freshman, #6 Mitchell Senour is the squad’s primary faceoff specialist. On the season, he is 51-101 from the X. Finally, the Griffins have used both #7 Sean Edwards and #21 Phil Cannell in the goalkeeper position. Edwards has 36 saves and a goals against average of 10.74, while Cannell has logged 16 saves and has a goals against average of 11.24.
