Spartans Snag No. 11 in Latest USILA Coaches Poll
TAMPA, Fla.– The University of Tampa Spartans was tabbed No. 11 in the latest USILA Division II coaches poll, as announced by the association office, Monday.
In its season opener on February 2, the Spartans lost to the then No. 9 Belmont Abbey Crusaders by a final score of 13-9. In the game, senior Matt Vetter and freshman Harry Kilkowski led the Spartans on offense each with three goals. Following their efforts, were those of Andrew Kew, who logged one goal in addition to leading the team in assists with two. Ross Dickerson won 19 of the 24 faceoffs he took, in addition to recording a goal and a team-high of 10 ground balls. Due to his outstanding performance, he earned the Sunshine State Conference Specialist of the Week honors.
After defeating the Spartans, BAC comes in the poll this week at No. 5. Merrimack remains at No. 1, while LeMoyne, Seton Hill, and Adelphi round out the top five respectively. The only other SSC school in the poll this week are the Saint Leo Lions who check in at No. 9.
This weekend the Spartans will take the field again against SSC rival, Florida Southern. The game is a neutral site game and will be played at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, at Lake Highland Preparatory School in Orlando, Florida.
