Spartans Receive Highest Rank in Program History
TAMPA, Fla. – In the IWLCA Division II Coaches poll announced on Monday, February 25, the University of Tampa women’s lacrosse program was tabbed the No. 11 best team in the nation. Tampa climbs the poll eight spots after upsetting the No. 11 Limestone College Saints. This is the highest rank for the Spartans in program history.
Le Moyne College (0-0) tops the first regular-season IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll with 21 first-place votes. The Dolphins will open the 2019 campaign this weekend when they welcome the eleventh ranked University of Indianapolis Greyhounds (2-0) to town. Adelphi (2-0) holds strong in the number two position after picking up wins against #15 Florida Tech (1-2) and #3 Florida Southern (1-1) on the road. Lindenwood (3-0) and West Chester (1-0) round out the top five in this week’s poll. Tampa (3-1) was this week’s big mover, jumping from #19 into a tie for #11 on the strength of a 20-11 win over Limestone (3-1).
There are several top-25 games on tap this week, including a matchup between #10 Mercy and #20 New Haven on Wednesday. The weekend’s action features #7 East Stroudsburg at Adelphi, LIU Post (#6) at #24 Bentley, Tampa at #9 Regis, and #22 Tiffin at Mercyhurst (#17).
This past week, the Tampa Spartans went 2-0, upsetting the No. 11 Limestone College Saints 20-11, before taking down the North Greenville University Crusaders by a final score of 14-6.
The Sunshine State Conference is well represented in the poll, with Florida Southern taking the No. 3 spot, followed by Rollins at No. 8, Tampa at No. 11, and Florida Tech snagging no. 15.
