Spartans Honored by SSC in Consecutive Weeks
MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference named its weekly award winners and the University of Tampa’s womens basketball team was represented through Dori Nagy, who was named SSC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season. The Spartans front-court has been honored in consecutive weeks, as Lauren Kotey was named D-POW last Monday.
Nagy accumulated 40 points, 24 rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in two conference victories. The sophomore scored 20 points in back-to-back games, and she’s racked up at least 20 points in four total games this season (all four in the last five games). The USF transfer has grabbed double-digit rebounds in 11 games this year and she leads the SSC with 9.2 boards per game. Additionally, the 6’2″ forward went a perfect 16-for-16 from the free throw line in the two games combined. Nagy has recorded nine double-doubles this season, including three in the last five games.
The Spartans rank 7th in the NCAA, allowing 52.8 points per game and they’ve held the opponent to 50 points or less in 12 games this year. Tampa leads the SSC and ranks 29th in the NCAA with 29.2 defensive rebounds per game. UT has won the last six games, including 11 of the last 12, and they’re riding a five-game winning streak on the road.
