Spartans Fall to the Sharks
FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The University of Tampa Spartans were in Ft. Lauderdale, as they faced off against the Nova Southeastern University Sharks. After winning the first set, Tampa would drop the next three sets as they lost the match 3-1. With the lost Tampa is now 20-8 on the year and 13-4 in SSC play. NSU improves to 16-11 and 8-8 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tampa was able to control the first set of the match, as they would go up 11-5 on Nova Southeastern. NSU would use a 5-0 run to get within one point as 11-10. The Spartans would respond by going on their own run, scoring the next eight points to take the 19-10 lead. UT would be able to close the set out 25-14.
The second set started out with the Sharks getting out to an early 10-5 lead on the Spartans. Tampa was able to battle back as they were within one point at 18-17. However, UT would not be able to close the gap, as NSU would go on to win the set by a final score of 25-20.
The third set was a back-and-forth battle as the two teams would be tied on six different occasions with the last time would be at 16 all. From there the Sharks would score the next four points, as they were the first to 20. Tampa was able to get the score to 20-18 but Nova Southeastern was able to win the set by a final score of 25-21.
In the fourth set, the game was close early on as the teams were tied at eight. Nova Southeastern would go on a run as they went up 13-9 on Tampa. The Sharks would not surrender the lead for the remainder of the game as they took the set by a final score of 25-22.
