TAMPA, Fla. –  The University of Tampa softball team dropped both games of Tuesday’s double-header against Flagler College.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME ONE):

Final: Flagler 5 (W: Kyra Gipson, 7-3), Tampa 3 (L: Makaleigh Dooley, 8-4)
Records: University of Tampa Spartans (10-7), Flagler College Saints (13-10)
Location: Naimoli Family Field || Tampa, Fla.
All-Time Series: The teams have only met four times, and they’ve spilt the series at two games apiece. The most recent contest came in February 2017 when Flagler defeated UT, 5-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

BOT 1st: The Spartans began the game with consecutive free-passes and the runners were moved into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt from Corynn Miner. Sam Worrell approached the plate with two runners in scoring position and lasered a two-run double to left field. Worrell, a senior transfer from USF, ranks second on the team with nine RBI in 47 at-bats.

TOP 4th: Maria Kappos lined a triple to deep left center field and scored on an RBI single through the left side from Morgan Murphy.

BOT 6th: Stephanie Balmer ripped her second double of the season and scored the go-ahead run, as Miner went “inside-out” and connected for a base-knock over the second-basemen’s glove.

TOP 7th: With a runner on first base and one out, Flagler’s Jaclyn Mijuskovic cut the deficit in half with a double to left center field. After a groundout and a walk, Tatum Morgan tied the game on an infield single. Genevieve Mangini gave the Saints a two-run lead on a two-RBI single to right field. 

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Dooley made her 11th start of the season, and it was the first time that she’s walked more than one batter in a game. 
• This season, the Spartans have scored nine runs in the first inning.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

• It was the first time this season that a game has been decided in the seventh inning. 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (GAME TWO):

Final: Flagler 3 (W: Katlyn McCue, 5-4), Tampa 1 (L: Sam Worrell, 0-2)
Records: University of Tampa Spartans (10-8), Flagler College Saints (14-10)

All-Time Series: Flagler leads 6-3; and the Saints have won the last three games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

TOP 1st: Garland Evans led off the game with a walk and scored on an RBI single from Morgan Murphy. Murphy leads the team with 11 RBI. 

TOP 4th: Natalie Murphy singled up the middle to lead off the inning, and advanced to second on a walk to Mijuskovic. Evans cleared the bases with her second triple of the season to give Flagler a three-run lead.

BOT 5th: Maddie Farrell reached first on an error, followed up by a Lauren Pascoe base-knock, and Cristina Clauberg walked to load the bases. Corynn Miner pushed across the first run for the Spartans with a sacrifice fly to center field which scored the pinch-runner Emily Proffitt.

INSIDE THE STATS:

• Sam Worrell made her third start in the circle as a Spartan.
• The Saints drove in all of their runs with two outs.
