Spartans Extend Streak to 14
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The University of Tampa softball team swept Friday’s double-header against Embry-Riddle and extended their winning streak to 14 games.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP (Game One):

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 4th: The Eagles rattled off five straight singles to take a two-run lead. With two outs and the bases-loaded, Maggie Scott laced a two-run single to extend the Embry-Riddle lead.
TOP 6th: Trailing by four runs, UT loaded the bases with a lead-off single from Maddie Farrell. Emalee Jansen singled and moved to second on a Bailey Phillips‘ hit-by-pitch. Freshman shortstop, Stephanie Balmer, registered a two-run single to cut the ERAU lead in half. Balmer and Phillips advanced on the throw, then scored on Lexie Chevalier‘s third double of the evening. After back-to-back walks, the bases were loaded for Sam Worrell. Worrell, a USF transfer, connected on her fourth home run of the season and the grand slam gave UT a four-run lead. Farrell stepped to the plate for the second time in the inning, and logged her third career triple. Jansen collected her second base hit of the inning with an RBI single up the middle.
TOP 7th: Balmer walked to begin the inning and the Spartans extended their lead with a sacrifice fly from Corynn Miner. Miner picked up her 15th RBI of the year, which ranks third on the team.
BOT 7th: To lead off the inning, Lisa Hop reached base on an infield single. ERAU’s Michy Ramos doubled to right center field to score Hop, then the Eagles clawed back with two runs on an error and a sacrifice fly.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Worrell logged a career-high four RBI, her sixth game with multiple RBI.
- Balmer extended her team-lead in walks (12), with two free-passes in game one.
- In the last ten games, Farrell has recorded multiple hits in six contests.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- Chevalier registered three doubles in the contest; tying the UT record for most doubles in a game, set by Kara Paula on April 4, 1993.
- The Spartans extend their winning streak to 13 games, the longest winning streak since 2013 when UT won 14 straight games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 1st: The Eagles tallied the first run of the game with back-to-back extra-base hits, a triple from Mariana Pereira and a double from Katy Thompson. The extra-base hit for Thompson tied her for the team lead with seven doubles.
TOP 3rd: Tampa manufactured three runs in the third inning, beginning with a walk by Lexie Chevalier. Cristina Clauberg reached base on a bunt single, and the runners advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Corynn Miner. Sam Worrell walked on a wild pitch, which presented the opportunity for Tampa’s first run as Chevalier scored on the mistake. Maddie Farrell drove in Clauberg on a sacrifice fly, and Worrell scored on Makaleigh Dooley‘s second double of the year.
BOT 4th: ERAU’s Thompson reached base on an error and scored on an RBI double from Michy Ramos. With no outs and a runner on second, the Spartans were able to work out of the jam with a fly out to Lauren Reyes in right field. Reyes came up throwing, as Ramos tagged at second, and hosed the Embry-Riddle baserunner at third base.
TOP 5th: To begin the inning, Worrell walked and Mackenzie Allen pinch-ran for the senior. Allen moved to third base after back-to-back sacrifice bunts, and Emalee Jansen placed one through the left side to extend the lead.
BOT 6th: ERAU’s Ramos singled up the middle, followed up by ReAnne Drayton’s double. After the Spartans pitching change, Savannah Brockenbrough lasered a pitch down the left field line to score both runners and ultimately tied the game at four apiece.
TOP 9th: Clauberg led off the inning with a walk, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Miner. Worrell reached base on an error, and was followed up by Farrell. Farrell roped a line drive, which one-hopped the left field fence, for an RBI double to take the one-run lead.
INSIDE THE STATS:
- Jansen went 3-for-4, with an RBI and a walk. The sophomore tied her career-high with three hits; she’s accomplished this twice in her career.
- Worrell drew three walks in the contest, which tied the UT record for most walks in a game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
- The Spartans extend their winning streak to 14 games, the longest winning streak since 2013 when UT won 14 straight games.
- This was the third extra-inning game for the Spartans this year; UT owns a 2-1 record in extra-inning contests.
UP NEXT: The University of Tampa will complete the weekend series with a single game on Saturday morning, first pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Daytona Beach.
