Spartans Earn No. 1 Seed Entering NCAA Quarterfinals
TAMPA, Fla.– The University of Tampa was selected as the No. 1 overall seed entering the NCAA Quarterfinals, as announced by the NCAA on Sunday. The Spartans will take on the No. 8 seed, the American International College Yellow Jackets. This will be the first meeting ever between the two programs. The NCAA Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship is being hosted by Clarion University, Slippery Rock University, and SportsPITTSBURGH in Pittsburgh, Pa.
The Yellow Jackets won the East Regional Title yesterday, sweeping Holy Family by set scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 25-19. AIC enters the quarterfinals with an overall record of 24-11. UT earns the No. 1 seed after winning the program’s 18thSouth Regional Title by defeating the No. 16 Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 3-1. This was the Spartans first regional title since 2014, the same year Tampa won the national championship.
The other members of the Elite Eight include Wheeling Jesuit, Western Washington, Wingate, Washburn, Tarleton State, and Lewis.
The Spartans match against the Yellow Jackets will be on Thursday, November 29that 5:00 p.m. All Elite Eight matches will take place in Pittsburgh, Pa. Should the Spartans advance to the semifinals, they would take on the winner of the No. 4 Wingate vs. No. 5 Washburn match.
